Easy Caribbean Recipes for Busy Students

October 25, 2024 By Debra LB. Leave a Comment

Students add more school workload to their busy schedules daily which makes it harder
to manage it. Most of them opt to eat unhealthy fast foods due to a lack of time to
prepare healthy meals. Fortunately, there are quick and affordable options for preparing
healthy meals and handling your school workload effectively.
Caribbean recipes are excellent for busy students because they are affordable, easy to
prepare, healthy, and delicious. Here are tasty Caribbean recipes that you can prepare
no matter how busy you are.

Caribbean rice and peas
This is an easy meal that requires 1 cup of long-grain rice, 400g coconut milk, and 1 can
of red kidney beans. It is seasoned with 1 minced garlic clove, ½ teaspoon thyme, salt,
and pepper. Rinse the rice and add the coconut milk, garlic, and thyme plus a cup of
water. Let the mixture boil and simmer for about 20 minutes. Add the kidney beans and
cook for an extra 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to your taste and serve your meal.
Your main challenge could be handling all your assignments when you have so much to
do on your list. Luckily, Edubirdie writers are always ready to support students to
complete essays on time. You can contact them if you have challenges with research or constructing the most unique arguments in your essays. Basically, no matter what the paper type is or how difficult it is, whenever you wonder ‘how can I pay someone to write my essay head to the site. Some simple steps will ensure that your order is placed successfully. You get the complete paper within the deadline you set. While you enjoy your favorite Caribbean dish, let the experts handle the assignments.

Caribbean fried plantains
Plantains look like bananas although they are less sweet. You can prepare them for breakfast, as a side dish, or snack. You require 2 ripe plantains, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and salt. These ingredients make a tasty healthy meal and cost a few cents. Peel the plantains and chop them into half-inch-thick slices. Fry them in a pan at medium heat until they turn golden brown. Use paper towels to drain the excess oil and then sprinkle salt to taste. One serving of this healthy meal will keep your stomach full for several hours.

Saltfish and bake
This is a popular meal prepared by frying dough and served with salted cod. It is an
affordable and excellent meal for snacking, breakfast, or lunch. You require a package of salted cod, 2 cups of wheat flour, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. You also require
1 diced onion, 1 chopped tomato, oil, and water.
● If you plan to cook it for breakfast, soak the cod overnight. Boil the fish for 10
minutes and shred it.
● Knead a soft dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
● Make small dough balls and flatten them. Fry them in a pan until they turn golden
brown.
● Fry the fish in another pan and add the onion and tomato. Let them cook for
about 7 minutes. Enjoy your tasty protein and carbs-rich food.

Coconut curry lentils

Coconut curry lentils is a flavored dish full of proteins and vitamins. Lentils are a rich
source of fiber which makes you feel full for more hours. This dish is affordable and
takes about half an hour to prepare. You require 1 cup of dried lentils, 400g of coconut
milk, and 1 diced onion. You also require 2 teaspoons of curry powder, 2 cloves of
minced garlic, and 2 teaspoons of oil.
Boil the lentils for about 20 minutes until they soften. Sauté the garlic and onions on a
pan and add the curry while stirring. Add the boiled lentils and coconut milk and cook for
about 10 minutes. You can serve the meal with rice, pancakes, or bread. This meal is
perfect for lunch or dinner.

Jerk chicken wraps
Jerk chicken wraps are easy to prepare and you can easily get jerk seasoning from
local stores. It is a choice between a simple dinner for lunch or supper. You require 2
bone-free chicken breasts and 2 tablespoons of jerk seasoning. Buy 4 wraps, tomatoes,
and lettuce. You may buy any preferred vegetable if you don’t like lettuce. Buy your
preferred sauce or mayonnaise.
Apply the jerk seasoning onto the chicken breasts and fry them in a pan until fully
cooked. Cut the chicken into thin slices and add veggies, tomatoes, and sauce or
mayonnaise. Fold the wraps and enjoy your meal. This meal is tasty and rich in proteins
and vitamins.

Conclusion
Preparing tasty and healthy meals is easy when you have the right ingredients. Most
Caribbean recipes are affordable and take about 30 minutes to get your meal ready to
eat. Eating healthy meals improves students’ well-being and physical and mental health.
